Koh Ta Kiev (locate in Sihanoukville,Cambodia)

Only an hour away from mainland, Koh Ta Kiev is one of the closest islands to Sihaoukville and is on the itinerary of many of the day trips and island tours that leave from there. Very few people stay overnight on island, though, which is a shame because it's beautiful and has a few easily accessible beaches.

Like most of the islands in Cambodia,Koh Ta Kiev has been leased to a foreign company  the same French outfit that owns, or has taken 99-year leases, on half of Koh Russei and parts of Ream National Park.

They have ambitious plans for high-end resorts and boutique luxury hotels, although they haven't started developing the island yet. They have, however, prevented any additional businesses from opening on the island leaving the two current residents, Koh Ta Kiev Resort and Ten 103 Treehouse Bay, in relatively secluded calm.

Koh Rong Resort in Cambodia.

Koh Rong is a true island paradise with pristine white beaches and turquoise water. For years the island was almost completely undeveloped save for a diving outfit and a few bungalows on either side of the island.

Then, in late 2010 and early 2011, a number of new operations opened up, as well as regular boats to the island. But with only seven sets of bungalows on the 78 square kilometre island, it still has an almost-deserted feel to it with just enough going on to make it comfortable.

The island is truly gorgeous, and well worth the two-and-a-half hour boat trip from Sihanoukville. There are seven bays on the island, all with fish and marine-life crowded waters, making for great snorkelling and diving.

Koh Rong has 43 kilometres of beaches, but the majority of the new accommodation is on the southeast. One of the most beautiful beaches is known as Long Set beach, after the farmer who lives there growing cashews, coconuts and mangoes.

There are two daily boats between Sihanoukville and Koh Rong Island. Departure from Sihanoukville is at 08:00 and 13:00 and from Koh Tui Village on Koh Rong Island at 10:30 and 14:00.

So if you want to take advantage of Koh Rong's perfect beaches, diving, snorkelling and phosphorescent night swimming, go now.
